HORMONE HEALTH

Hormones are chemical messengers made by glands throughout the body, traveling through the bloodstream to shape your energy, mood, sleep, digestion, and metabolism. They also guide your monthly cycle, which makes it one of the easiest places to see how your hormones are doing. If your cycle is irregular, painful, or hard to live with, your body may be asking for attention.

Common concerns:

  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), where symptoms can start 1-2 weeks before a period - mood swings, insomnia, breast tenderness, bloating, headaches or migraines

  • Irregular or missed periods - cycles that vary widely and run very short or very long

  • Painful periods - sometimes strong enough to cause nausea or vomiting and missed work or school

  • Heavy periods - Soaking through a pad or tampon in an hour or two, large clots, or bleeding for more than a week

With these common symptoms, Dr. Wang often sees conditions such as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), or endometriosis. PMOS can cause irregular or missing periods, along with extra hair growth, acne, or weight gain. Endometriosis occurs when tissue resembling the uterine lining grows in other parts of the abdomen, often leading to severe period cramps and pelvic pain.

Hormone imbalances rarely have a single cause or a quick fix. Dr. Wang looks past individual symptoms to find what’s driving them, then uses integrative approaches to help your body regain balance.
